Note-C overview

Note-C is a very simple application for collecting your notes, snippets, and any other pieces of text without limiting access to your entries, yet offering extensive export features.

  • Saving your entries. Every single entry will be stored in a separate file and you can freely choose where your entries should be saved. All entries are saved in the open TXT file format so you can open your entries in many text editors.
  • Creating multiple notebooks. Note-C allows you to create multiple notebooks, so you can classify your entries by topic and project.
  • Special editor- and fullscreen-modes. Note-C's editor offers a lot of features to make writing more efficient and minimize use of the mouse, such as automatic list creation (* and - signs) or moving of text passages with keyboard shortcuts. Also, Note-C offers fullscreen mode in OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion.
  • Collecting external files. You can add files to each entry which will be stored in a separate folder.
  • Markup Support. Note-C supports the following markup-languages: Markdown, Textile, BBCode, Wikitext, HTML, and Smark.
  • Notice Collecting. Note-C offers a range of methods for creating a notice: use its integrated notice feature, the status bar, or the Note-C bookmarklet available for most Web browsers.
  • Exporting entries. Export to plain text, RTF, RTFD, HTML, DOC, ODT, and PDF, and choose to export your entries into separate files or to one file which collects all selected entries. You can also export your selected entries as an ePub-eBook file.

What’s new in version 2.5.9

New:
  • new settings option for visual highlighting of double spaces at the end of a line (can be set under Preferences > Typography)
  • new option for Markdown, MultiMarkdown and MarkdownExtra: Magic Double Space. This function adds two spaces to the end of the last line when a line break occurs. If there are two line breaks, the two spaces of the last line are removed again
  • Markers in texts that are inserted via copy&paste: The first marker is automatically selected after pasting
Improvements:
  • Improved copy and paste behavior of the text editor when the “Paste formatted” option is activated. Source code and plain text copied from web browsers are now better recognized
  • improved the behavior of the editor when using the “Move cursor” keyboard shortcuts
  • minor adjustments to the markup templates for image and link for the Markdown, MarkdownExtra and MultiMarkdown languages. Fields two and three are now labeled with markers, which enables faster editing of the respective markups
Updated:
  • updated some pages in the help
Bug fixes:
  • fixes a bug that prevented scrolling in some areas of the preview
  • fixes an inaccuracy in the counting of characters in the formatted text
  • fixes a bug with cursor customization in certain font, size and cursor settings that caused the cursor not to have the desired appearance
  • fixes a bug that caused the display not to be updated after deleting an entry in certain positions within the notebook
  • fixes a bug when setting the options for line numbering in the preferences

Tried to see how the application looks and works. Super tiny font impossible to see anything. On a super Black background is exceptionally annoying. Visited the developer's website, same thing. Black black and more black, plus some tiny red. To make all developer's applications useable the font needs to increased at least double, and background white or any other light shade. Right now its unusable.

When you add export to ODF (the true open document standard), I will give it try. Until then, it isn't as slick as those apps that offer inline formatting along WITH mouse/shortcut formatting control.
